WEEK 6: DESMA9 BLOG POST
HELLO BRUINS,
As Ruth West raises questions for us to consider on how biotechnology and art affect our daily lives and where the two domains fit in the world, I believe it is critical to shaping your own understanding of it and break down the stigmas associated with the worlds of art and biology.

However, as Vesna points out in her introduction clip, whether we realize it or not, artists are working in the laboratory, merging their two worlds. Joe Davis, a pioneer who invented the concepts art and biotech, was described by her. I thought it was fascinating how he used sound to communicate with the living cells in the laboratory. In his experiment, he fused jazz sound waves to observe the reaction of cells to sound output. As I listen to music, I never consider how my body responds to it, but Joe Davis combined the two to research how music affects our cells.
Another topic that was debated was the ethics of using animals and live cells; when art and biotech merge, the two are causing debate. Whether artists should be held to higher standards when manipulating living cells and organisms, I believe that scientists and artists should be held to the same level of standards. Given that they are all learning from living cells or animals in various ways and putting that information to use.

Hi Yuliana! I enjoyed your blog post a lot and thought it had some great ideas for this week's topic. I love how you incorporated your personal experiences in with the lecture topics discussed by Vesna. I also included Joe Davis into my blog but didn't think to tie in my own personal experiences into it. I also discussed the ethics in my blog but in a different way so I love the new ideas that you mentioned that I didnt!
